This is a short book with a firm message of hope. Frannie and her classmates are surprised to see a new student. Kids in class have started calling him Jesus Boy because of his looks. Frannie’s life is full of surprises. Each of these surprises (or changes) help her look at the world differently. Even Frannie’s deaf brother comes to new realizations.
This books is difficult to write about without giving away the surprises in the story. It was a Newberry honor winner. Although it’s not a book full of action, it is a book about relationships in school and at home.
