Hit the Road by Caroline B. Cooney

Brit is about to spend the summer with her grandma while her parents are out of town. This is not the normal “stay with Grandma” summer. Hit the Road starts with Brit’s grandma taking Brit on an adventure. It actually becomes Brit kidnapping (sort of) and going on an adventure. She is illegally driving a rental car across country with her grandma and two other old ladies. The ladies are close friends and have been for 65 years. How could Brit not learn about friendship from these ladies and her cell phone? This story is full of complications involving money, lawyers, police, and friends. Laughter is contiunous from tearing up Grandma’s lawn in the beginning to dealing with a crazy son.
