Where I Want to Be
July 6, 2006 — msmoellerwhere i want to be by Adele Griffin

Jane and Lily are sisters. Although Lily is the younger sister, she has an easier life. Jane’s life is not as easy. She is not as outgoing or popular. Lily has always noticed Jane’s difficulty distinguishing between imagination and reality. Love binds the sisters, but sometimes being sisters is difficult. Life ends with a car accident forJane , and Lily must continue her life in the same small town. People in the town wonder if Jane jumped in front of the car. Both sisters tell their story after the accident in alternating chapters.
And from Ms. Childs – This book was confusing to read because I couldn’t always be certain what was happening in real time, especially once I heard about the accident. Jane has a more difficult life socially, primarily because of her mental condition that allows her to function pretty well in life, but Jane knows everything goes easier for Lily and she begins to resent Lily for that. We can also see that life is difficult for the rest of the family when one member has a mental disorder, even a mild one.
Another book by Adele Griffin in our library, Amandine, shows how sometimes we need to be careful whom we choose as friends.
